What’s next? A ‘Decant Precinct’
Our first step once we have secured planning consent will be to move the Yurt Café and our current tenants into a temporary home. We have purchased the neighbouring John Scurr Centre (JSCC) from Tower Hamlets Council and have under gone an extensive program of refurbishment to bring this underused community asset back into intensive use.
The Decant Precinct will house the Yurt Café and our community uses. This new home will benefit from the attractive external areas for seating and gardening, with a new connection to St James’s Gardens.
The Decant Precinct will provide continuity which the local community can engage with and demonstrate how the new space will be operated. This means new connections can be formed ahead of the formal opening of the new Precinct.
We have recreated the informal atmosphere and homeliness of the Yurt – with a strong sense of joy leading our design and fitting out if this new space. We are looking to shortly unveiling this uplifting environment for our neighbours and visitors to continue to meet.
Another special RFSK venue, JSCC will provide continuity and a space from which we can, with our community, formulate the feel and spirit for the new permanent facilities.
The full planning application material can be found by searching PA/21/02188 on the Tower Hamlets Planning Portal here.
